LAZY DAZE: Although the mission of Lazy Daze is to act as the maintenance department of Tangerine Woods, the organization has an active social life. Three times a year, the men put on their aprons and take over the clubhouse kitchen and great room to serve 300 or more breakfasts. An annual luncheon "for Lazy Daze only" is held each spring to honor the workers by the women in the community. Also, to promote family camaraderie, a yearly Bunco (dice game) party of fun and relaxation is held each spring for Lazy Daze members and spouses. The event of the year is the annual spaghetti dinner for all Lazy Daze members and spouses. A special recognition is made to widows of deceased Lazy Daze members.
The Annual Welcome Back Party: Each year in November the "Snowbirds" are welcomed back along with the year-round residents to a great party. The Clubhouse is transformed into a special setting with the lit mirror ball spinning overhead. A local band provides the music, and most people dance to Rock 'N Roll, along with a good number of slower tunes, all evening long. They are also treated to a delicious dessert. One year the committee even wore matching muu-muu dresses and looked adorable. Everyone has a good time.
FLEA MARKET: Each year on the last Saturday of January, Tangerine Woods holds a Flea Market/Craft sale for residents to sell their "unwanted" treasures and crafts to the public. The clubhouse, lanai and parking lot are completely transformed into a large Marketplace. Residents can set up their items on tables that have been rented for a small fee. This is in place of individual garage sales. Along with the flea market, there is a raffle for many nice prizes and a huge bake sale of resident-donated goodies. The annual sale is advertised through local media and large signs at the TW entrance. This event is very popular in the Englewood area and for a few hours on that Saturday morning, Tangerine Woods swells by several thousand eager bargain hunters.
LADIES' SOUP LUNCHEON: Each year Tangerine Woods holds the "Ladies' Soup Luncheon" to benefit Saint Jude's Children's Hospital located in Memphis, Tennessee. The women of TW offer a variety of gourmet soups, made by members of the community, accompanied by home-made breads and baked goods. A short program is then presented by members of the committee to tell about the programs done at St. Jude's for cancer care and research. St. Jude's is famous for providing
special services to children from all over the USA. In one five year period, over $10,000 was raised at this event thanks to all the soup cooks, bakers and attendees.
Tangerine Woods is a very active community and there are many more social events throughout the year including outside entertainment, Welcome Party for New Residents, Halloween Party. Christmas Dinner, New Years Eve Meet, Munch and Mingle, dances and much more. There is always something to do!
